Reading - retelling my story in order

Reflection

Summarising by retelling my story in order helps me because: getting me better at remembering the story.

It was really hard to: read all of the words because sometimes I miss out the tricky ones. I need to come back and reread.

Something that really helped me was: doing lots of practise.

Something new I learned was: I need to read back so I don't miss out words.

I am pleased that doing lots of practise is helping your reading. Remember to read all of the words. Missing out a tricky word and then rereading is an important strategy to work out new words but you need to reread!
You can retell the story that ypu read and can find all the main ideas. Your next step is make sure the ideas are all in order.

Rangatiratanga

We are learning about Rangatiratanga (Leadership and initative).

This is what we think Rangatiratanga is...
  • Helping new kids –showing them what to do and where things are
  • Doing something without being asked
  • Helping
  • Solving problems for ourselves… thinking
  • Leading by example… showing by doing
  • It is not being a bossy boots


Rangatiratanga (Leadership and Initiative) - it is all about thinking and making some choices for ourselves. 

We need to think for ourselves!!

My Reflection
I show rangatiratanga in the playground by: I share things when I play with people and no one tells me to.

I show rangatiratanga in the classroom when: when I give a train to my friend who wants it even when I want to play with it. I share with them.

It was really hard when: I play with my friends and they want to play another game.

Rangatiratanga is all about leading by example and doing some thinking for yourself. You can use your i time chart to make sure you are doing the right thing and leading by example. Some thinking you can start to do for your self is making sure you plan the must dos first during i time. Remember to make sure you are on track and completing each task.

Fractions and problem solving

We have been learning all about fractions and what a fraction is. We decided that a fraction is fair. It needs to be the same shape, same size or the same number. 
We have also been doing loads of thinking and problem solving in our maths. We think problem solving is hard but we are very proud of our learning!

Reflection

My favourite part was: making groups that were fair.

It was really hard when: when I was trying to think and work out the answer.

Something that really helped me was:using the jelly beans so I can see what's fair.

Something new I learned was: what half is and it has to be fair.

You know what is half and not half. A half if fair - the same size, same number or the same shape. You can make half a set and find half of a shape. With support you can find quarters. Your next learning step is to find thirds and fifths of sets and shapes. Remember during maths time you need to focus and do loads of thinking. It will be tricky but using the materials does help you.

My awesome dad

Writing
In High5 we have been practising writing to describe. That means we are trying to get the reader to see what we see, we are using our words to create a picture. We have been adding details to our writing to help make the picture clearer.

Task:
Our job is to do this planning and write our own story about a person in our family that is special to us.

Success Criteria:

My favourite part was: showing my writing to dad

It was really hard when: writing the words and listening for the sounds. It was hard to have lots of ideas too.

Something that really helped me was: using my stretchy cat arm and listening. Planning my writing helped me to think.

Something new I learned was: I can do big stories and add some more ideas.

Wearable Arts

We have been learning all about design on our way to create our wearable art garment. We started with some challenges…
1. In teams create and build the tallest tower
Our tower is the tallest, but we didn't finish in time.
We worked together; sharing ideas and elping each other. We have learned that it is really important to design and plan our creations before we start. This means we all know what we are trying to make.
2. Build a shelter for Leo our class bear


We learned that it can be very tricky to work in groups and we all have to take turns.
3. Work together to create a costume for 1 member of our team to model.

We remembered that it is important to design our work before we start. We also learned that we have to be careful with our materials, newspaper and tinfoil rip quiet easily.

We are going to use what we have learned to create our wearable arts garment.

My favourite part was: going to the Regent

It was really hard when: making my mask

Something that really helped me was: my Mum helped make my Kiwi.

Something new I learned was: our dance.

My body in Te Reo

We are learning the body parts in Te Reo with our buddies. We have worked hard to create a poster to show our learning.

Success Criteria:
I have at least 6 body parts clearly labeled on my poster
I have the English and Māori words on my poster
I can sing a simple waiata (song) in Te Reo Māori about the parts of the body
